Review - Nokia N97 Mini

For those who find the Nokia N97 too bulky, Nokia had created the Nokia N97 Mini which is a more compact version of the original Nokia N97. At 138 grams, The Nokia N97 mini is much lighter than the 150 grams weight of the N97 version.
The Nokia N97 Mini boasts of its main feature of a Slide-n-tilt 3.2" 16M-color resistive touch screen of 640 x 360 pixel resolution. It has a slide-out, three rows that is full QWERTY keyboard. Its OS is Symbian OS 9.4 with S60 5th edition UI which features kinetic scrolling. The Mini is also Quad-band GSM and tri-band 3G with 3.6Mbps HSDPA support.
To add to the key features of the phone it has digital compass and built- in accelerometer. It also has 3.5 mm audio jack and TV-out. It also allows stereo FM Radio with RDS. The phone also features audio reproduction.
Though smaller than the original N97, it has a 5 megapixel camera which is auto focus. To add to its camera features, the camera comes with a dual-LED flash and allows video recording at 30fps.
This mobile phone has its processor at ARM 11 434 MHz CPU and 128 MB of RAM. It also has 8GB onboard storage with a micro SD card slot with micro SDHC support. The Nokia N97 Mini also uses a micro USB port as addition to its connectivity features.
In addition, the Nokia N97 mini has GPS with A-GPS. Internet use is obviously possible as it is WiFi able. Its web browser has full Java support. The browser also supports Flash. Sharing of files like pictures and music is done through its stereo Bluetooth v2.0. Word documents can also be viewed in this version of phone as it has Office document viewer.
However this version of the phone has its downside. To start with, the S60 touch UI is found by both users and reviews to be inconsistent. Its camera interface and features is outdated compared to its contemporaries. The lens of the camera has also no protection, making it prone to scratches. It has also no DivX or XviD video support.
Though able to view Office documents, the Nokia N97 mini is not capable of Office document editing except for an upgrade that is paid separately by the user. This phone has also no smart dialing and FM transmitter.
The main difference of the original N97 to the N97 Mini is in the body size and the weight. The N97 Mini's size is 113 x 52.5 x 14.2 mm, 75 cc. The original N97 however is at 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9 mm, 88 cc.
The size of the screen display is also one of the main differences: 3.2" for the Mini and 3.5" for the original.
Other noticeable differences are the arrow keys in the Mini versus the D-pad in the original N97. Because of the size, the internal memory of the N97 Mini is lower at 8 GB compared to the 32 GB of the original N97.
